I coloured this digitally just yesterday.
Similar to mightyena, I used photoshop cs6's magic wand tool for selection, and coloured in the shades with the gradient tool. I had to blend the colour right to attain the original colours. I also used the pencil tool for drawing. Overall, it was a decent job which I managed to complete. You can view the original image here.
